The rise of low-cost airlines has significantly altered our travel habits. People who used to fly once every year or two have started to visit the airport more frequently. In addition, new destinations are constantly being made available. However, if there is one thing that people have had difficulty adjusting to in the low-cost era, it is probably flying without luggage. However, some people still struggle to adjust to the idea of traveling with only hand luggage, even for shorter trips (and we have a detailed guide on how to do it right!).

There’s no doubt that when you travel for long periods, for business, shopping or complex vacations (such as a ski trip, for example), you have no choice but to take a suitcase. However, in many cases, it is possible to forego the suitcase, and there are many advantages to doing so.

Why should you leave your suitcase at home?

Flying without a suitcase = time saver

  • Faster check-in – the first advantage of worth giving up the suitcase is significant time savings at the airport. Many airports enable travelers to head straight for security and forego check-in, as long as they have a boarding pass. Other airports have launched special fast tracks for flights with hand luggage only, enabling you to skip the long check-in lines.
  • Faster exit – there is nothing more frustrating after landing than waiting for your luggage: praying that the luggage will start coming out on time, running to grab a good spot near the luggage exit, examining each piece of luggage that comes out, and then rushing to the shuttle at the precise time to grab your luggage on the move. Is it time we give this up? In our opinion, completely. With a luggage-free flight and with a carry-on or handbag only, you can simply leave the airport.
  • Shorter packing time – proper packing takes significantly less time and forces you to focus on what you must pack and leave out what is not really necessary. We have also compiled a concise list of everything you need and can pack in a backpack.

Flying without luggage and saving a lot of money

  • Flying at the lowest prices – our long-time followers know this: The lowest prices offered by most airlines do not include luggage. If you are still interested in adding luggage, it is likely that it will add a significant amount of money to the cost of your flight, sometimes even more than the price of the ticket itself. A simple solution is to forgo luggage and opt for a lower price on your flight.
  • No fines – Airlines limit the weight of checked-in luggage and are happy to charge dozens of dollars for excess weight. When flying without luggage, there is one less worry – with a backpack or a carry-on that fits the dimensions and weight, the fear of passing that 23 kg weight – disappears.

Comfort during travel begins with a carry-on bag.

  • Luggage can get lost on the way, but a carry-on bag won’t – There’s nothing more frustrating than arriving at your destination to find that your luggage didn’t make it on the plane. In addition to all the stress and frustration, the first day of your trip will be wasted on shopping for basic items. To avoid this risk, we recommend taking a carry-on bag or suitcase instead.
  • Comfort – Traveling with a carry-on bag or suitcase is not only more comfortable, but it is also easier: you won’t have to deal with carts at the airport or drag heavy luggage through European cities. Your back will thank you.
